Would I buy an old Jaguar via ebay in the USA again? Probably yes, but only one which is proven to be in a good condition, because if it is not, one has to spend more money on restoring the car than one can ever earn with it later, the latter easily surpassing the actual market value of the car by far. I hope that with the 20.000,- Euros that I have spent on this car I have just about reached the market value, but not surpassed it, yet.

And also in my case, what they say proved to be true: one should only buy a classic car in an already relatively good condition, because then others have to write off the investment on the restoration.

Some smaller things still need to be fixed: the odometer, the windscreen washing system, the coolant temperature gauge, the clocks, door and window sealing, and a few more.

It will take more time (and money) to have a car in a really good condition. The paint is not quite as impeccable as it looks on the photos: if you look closely you will see little scratches, places where the varnish has rubbed off, and the different colours ranging from the original two shades of grey to several different ones that have been applied over time. Ideally, our MK IX needs a complete new paint job.

Overall, the car is a good 3+ condition. Without a thorough restoration it will also never become a concour car, but with a little bit of care and love, a presentable classic car with lots of original patina stemming from a 43 year long "car life".
